Residential Electricians
Residential electricians are qualified professionals who work in residential properties. Examples of these include flats, apartments, bungalows, semi / attached properties, static caravans and holiday homes.
Residential electricians are responsible for checking these places are safe and ensure compliance with relevant electrical standards. These standards may differ depending on the appliance involved.
Residential electricians also ensure approved codes of practice are followed, and they are required to work to the BS 7671 Regulations. All of which are very different from those that cover premises in which a commercial electrician will work.

Part P Scheme
Any electrical work carried out in a dwelling must be carried out in line with the Part P regulations. There are a number of organisations with whom an electrician can register in order to comply with these regulations.
What does this mean?
This means that every electrician that is registered with one of these schemes is required to meet a minimum standard established for electrical installations. These schemes require that all of the work we carry out, in a dwelling, is notifiable to the local authorities, and the self certification schemes were created to make this process easier.
It is important to ensure that any electrical work you have carried out in your home is done by an electrician who is registered with one of these government approved schemes and you can check here to see if the person you are considering has registered.
